about

i wrote this about a girl i saw on the subway and i invented my own little life for me and her just based on looks. i'm shallow and i wrote this and it's very pretty and i still think about her

lyrics

And I met her on the subway
I was headed west to Brooklyn
She lived in upper Manhattan

And I said
Hi I don’t know how many times
Some ones told you this today
But you quite nice
And she said thanks
But she gave me that smile
Like that pity smile
You get when you’ve just said something uncomfortable
I’m sorry if I’ve intruded on your day
Just making a point not to deny myself the finer things in life
And she said so you read john green
That was the start

And we went out
On the subway
On our first date
Going west to Brooklyn
But she lived in an apartment in upper Manhattan

And we went out
On the subway
On our first date
I remember the way her lips felt when she kissed me
She said she was gonna miss me

And so I asked
Hey would you like to see me next Saturday night
And I thought maybe she wouldn’t recognize me but id never forget her face
But there she was
At the door
In the coat from before
And I saw her and I remembered the way I felt

On out first date on the subway
I was headed west to Brooklyn
But she lived in an apartment in upper Manhattan

And it was so late
on the subway
And she said if I could
It would be so nice if I could see you later
And she said if I could
Could I get your number I’ll call you later
Would you like to go out for dinner

On the subway
I was heading west to Brooklyn
But she lived in an apartment in upper Manhattan
And she boarded the 7
Even though we both know
She wasn’t heading that way
She wasn’t heading my way

And I said hi do you wanna go outside
And she said
No I guess I’m fine here

I remember her grey coat
And every song I wrote
I hope she liked them
They were not that good
And every word I wrote I wrote for you
I hope you know I’m staying true

And I’ve been out a few times
With other “girls who liked guys”
But its just not the same

You’re just not the same
Girl you were on the subway

Just mess around, I guess
See how you feel
Come back to me in a few more years
